Premire Stress for College

College applications. Most people begrudgingly get through them or complain. I,on the other hand, love them! Filling out my address 7 times is my idea of a good time. I love coming home and seeing huge packages with my name on it with a university logo. I already wrote my college essay, it just needs editing. I plan on going to IU Bloomington, but I'm applying to 5 other schools (mainly just to see that acceptance letter over and over and over) I printed out a "practice FASFA" form, who practices FASFA during yearbook class!!?? I lecture my friend Danielle about STARTING her essay, or even GETTING applications. Everyone else in my grade is currently chill and is more worried about what they're going to wear at the water bowl party tonight. I take 20 virtual tours of the campus online and sign up for the SAT's again. I join every club possible and talk to passersby in the hall about which college they're choosing. I have bad dreams of coming home to the letter regretfully declining my acceptance into IU. When I go to Target, everything I see I picture in my dorm room. Everyday after school I walk around campus with a drink in hand and blend in perfectly. I pretend I'm a college student just to go back to chores, homework, and early morning seminary followed by, the currently inevitable, High School at 8 a.m. My landmarks for high school ending is: first-Homecoming, next-the Other homecoming, third-prom, and finally, GRADUATION! Can't wait! ! Wish me luck.

The Laundry Marker

Our message board.
We are told that when someone calls and has a message, we're supposed to write it down. I have yet to use it. I can never remember, and it's too inconvenient for me. I mean, really? I have to pull out the dry erase marker (and in my family, the marker gets lost a lot. Which means that you have to hurry and find one while on the phone with a stranger), take off the board from the desk by the computer, and write down the information. I'm too impatient. My mother, on the other hand, loves it. We came home from our "give mom a day off" fun day yesterday, and the board was on the table with cute handwritten messages. "Bill, meeting, call so-in-so. Tawny, appointment with the blankaty blank tomorrow. Sister Goates called, needs to talk to Aurora, too". Danni also finds the board helpful, only she uses it to draw pictures and spell her name 26 times. While she was trying to wipe off the old messages, she came across a problem. They wouldn't come off. She informed me of her problem and I suggested that it could be the wet dry erase, so she tried water. It looked as clear as when mom wrote it. My mom came over and inspected the mystery. "You used permanent marker" I stated, knowing the problem. "No, I used dry erase, see" She picked up the marker. It LOOKED like a dry erase marker, but had little mocking words on it that read "Laundry Marker". Even if you write your name on your whitey tightiesand put it through the washer, it wasn't comin off. My dad was laughing so hard, he used Enoch's baby seat for his support. My mom walked away in humorous shame. This is the Inman Family. There is no escaping these kinds of mishaps, no matter how hard we try.

Proactive Ocbservations

I have spent the last three days in my high school. And no, school has not even started yet. I volunteered to help with registration.
I helped per ants, students and families through the process of registering for school, getting their schedules, fixing their schedules and showing them around the school. I spent almost 12 hours in the in the purple corridors yesterday as I ran freshman orientation and again....registration.
Freshman remind me of something. What was it....Oh ya, the reason why people go into counseling.
I had them for just 2 hours. The beginning went great!! Small children amazed by your advanced years. But of course...every child is plagued with the inevitable ADD. You would think answering easy questions, and receiving candy for it, was the hardest chore their parents ever put them through! I yelled many times, said anyone who talks has to ask the next question, and pelted some with jaw breakers. My vice president screamed and at 11:00 we pretty much shoved them out the door to there ever awaiting guardians.
The thing about these particular guardians was that they stayed. It's FRESHMAN orientation, not ACT LIKE WE'RE STILL IN THE 5TH GRADE AND WATCH OVER THEM TO MAKE SURE THEY DON'T TRIP DOWN THE STAIRS orientation. Don't you think that when you send your children off to high school they should take big boy steps and make the intense choice to attend a game and candy filled event only with other freshman? One parent even followed his kid with us on the tour.
Maybe he can stay during her lunch period and wipe her face if she gets ranch on her chin.
Whatever the case may be, it made me realize, they have 4 years until they leave their smothers and suction cup fathers. I have 9 months. I can drive to the store, I can apply for college, I can picture my future so clearly. Even though it's not going to be my perfect picture, it's only months away....and it's all mine.

Cold Feet

Blogging.

An 8 letter word that meant "old and bored" to me. My mom began this horrid adventure about a year and a half ago. I would chuckle every time I saw her typing away on her multi-background-wanna be-myspace. Blogging, really? Who actually blogs, or enjoys reading other's blog about their irrelevant lives. I didn't believe anyone did until I saw the mass following of family, church members and friends that also must have been very bored. My mother (like all mothers) says I have a gift for writing. I'm pretty good, I must say. For a kid at least, but blogging was never in the equation. Getting out of our new used mini van yesterday, my mom said I should start blogging. I laughed and retorted with the "and what about" comment. "My high school?" I laughed. She said yes.
So, here I am. I thought about the idea, and was embarrassed to even be thinking about ...blogging, but as I began to "ponder", why not? I'm kind of new to this thing, if you haven't noticed. I guess you could say...a Blogamature.

School starts in less than two weeks, and hopefully with this, all my mom's old friends and herself get to live high school vicariously through me! Ohh....isn't this going to be a blast!
